Vet vacancy at a practice on the Isle of Wight.
Salary DOE.
Unique and flexible role available for a farm vet with a passion for proactive livestock health and welfare and sustainable food production.
The practice are looking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic vet to support their wonderful farm clients on the beautiful Isle of Wight.
Maybe you`d like to work part time? They can accommodate a 3 or 4 day working week alongside their 1 in 4 out of hours rota.
Maybe you`d be interested in dipping your toe into small animal work in a supportive and friendly environment alongside a variety of farm work? They would love to support you in your journey.
The Isle of Wight is a UNESCO biosphere - recognised as a unique natural and cultural environment. It`s a great place to live and work - with surf, sea swimming, mountain bike riding and sea eagles on your doorstep as well as easy access to cross channel ports, airports and direct trains from Portsmouth and Southampton to central London.
They would love to hear from you whatever your aspirations - whilst ideally they are looking for someone with some experience who`d like to drive the farm side of the practice forward - they are also open to enquiries from newer graduates and are committed to supporting all members of clinical staff through a fantastic Graduate Development Programme.
The farm side of their practice looks after the 10,000 cattle on the Island - mostly beef as well as about 30,000 breeding ewes. Many of their clients are working towards greater sustainability in their enterprises and they believe that as Vets they have a big role to play in empowering and supporting these farms in their transition.
They run regular client meetings - with recent topics including integrated parasite management, dung beetle safaris (!), anti-microbial stewardship and heifer selection. They would love you to do more of this - and will support you through a generous CPD budget as well as the usual farm practice toys.
They have also taken groups of clients on days and weekends away to the mainland visiting progressive farms further afield and supporting them in translating knowledge into practice once they get back home. Their uptake of Annual Health and Welfare Review visits has been impressive and they are committed to continuing to provide this high level of proactive care going forward. They are in a 48 month Tb testing parish and are currently training an ATT so your time can be spent on clinical work with very little routine testing. Out of hours is currently a quiet 1 in 4 rota.
They also treat other species including goats, camelids, the occasional pig and back yard chickens. The practice employs 16 vets with a wide variety of specialisms so if you`re secretly harbouring a passion for raptors, capuchin monkeys or tapirs, they would be happy to accommodate that - if not then there`s no pressure to see the multitude of exotics that pass through the clinic!
